Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Ephesians 6: 2-3 (KJV).
Our parents are beings that God used to procreate us and be who we are today. Some of us are adopted by extraordinary people, some of us have lost a parent or been raised by single parents. They took care of us in the first stages of our lives, laughed, suffered and even woke up with us in the midst of our illness. In addition, our parents have been friends and advisors.
Perhaps for many of you have been raised practically alone, lived and suffered alone. Moreover, did not have people who loved you, cared for you, and advised you in the midst of your development. But, you have proposed that when you reach your stage of parents, your children would not suffer or they would not go through what you lived. And, now you have become those exemplary parents for your children.
I remember that my parents told us, “We have fulfilled the responsibility of raising all of you with good, taking care of yourselves, advising and loving you, but when you reach 18 years of age, you will give an explanation to God of your actions. We will always be there to help, if you let us to help.” I do not know what lessons or memories you have of your parents, but I do know that they gave me words or discipline just on time to be the person that I am today.
Prayer: Open your heart
Lord Jesus, today I am before your presence asking you to forgive me. Today, I am in front of your presence asking for our parents. Also, I ask you to heal my heart and help me heal wounds from my past. Let me have a meeting with my parents, and this meeting is to ask for forgiveness and tell them that I love them and I know that just like me they can be healed too.
A Friendly Advice
Today, it is a day to always remember our parents. Give them a call and tell them that you love them, give them a visit and give them a big hug and a kiss. There are no excuses. They may be old and that’s when they need us the most. When you take care of your parents, honor them and respect them, God has given us a promise which is to lengthen the days of your life and be blessed from generation to generation. Do not wait because later can be too late.
