Saint Luke 21: 1-4 (Bible Reina Valera, 1960)
He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury; 2 and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins. 3 And he said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; 4 for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.”
Many times we get attached to material things, we cry because we lose our things, or we think that we do not have nothing. There are many times that we envy our neighbor because they have more than us. Unfortunately, we live in a high technology and commercialization society where the technological market make us think that we have nothing. But, truthfully we have everything. What? How, everything?
Yes! We have it all. Life, health, energy, children, spouse, family, a roof to sleep in, nature, the sun and the moon. Moreover, even what is not valuable to you and you throw it away, it will be valuable to the person who needs it. Therefore, the widow gave everything she had.
When you think you have nothing, and you think you are lonely in this world, think for a moment and look around you. Do you really think that you do not have nothing? I do not know what your answer will be. But, one thing I am sure, that God is at your side, the only thing that you have to offer is your heart and the doors of heaven will open on your behalf. Deposit all your burdens at the feet of Jesus. Then, you see, you will have everything.
Prayer: Open your heart
God, sometimes I think that I have nothing to offer. Forgive me for thinking like that. Today, I want to offer my life, my family and everything I have to you. Receive my offering of love and forgiveness in your presence. Seal and heal my heart. Amen.
A friendly advice
We do not have to be like the Pharisees, to stop the whole world to see us, but we can do as the widow who went humble to the house of God to offer what she had. Today, I advise you that in your room (bedroom or somewhere you feel comfortable) take a moment alone and offer your heart to God, and your life will be full of his Holy Spirit. You will see the difference in your life. You are special for God!
