Avoid all Idle Word

And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. Matthew 12:36

I was reading some biblical texts and my attention was the following:

33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. 34 You brood of snakes! How evil men could like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” Matthew 12: 33-37.

How true are these texts, that even God warns us of two types of people, the good and the bad. The good person produces good things because he has a good heart. But, the bad person is the one who produces bad things because it is evil in his/her heart. I know that many of us have met these two people at some point in our lives. Some people who come to help and bless; and, the other person who is like the snake, waiting to criticize, to hurt or even oppose everything you do. I imagine that perhaps you have identified with these types of person in your daily life because I have lived it. How can I identify these people?

Well, clearly the bible tells us how to identify these people. First, what is in the heart determines what one says. Your talk reflects the condition that your heart is. Your heart reflects your most intimate thoughts, your desires, and your emotions. If your heart is full of bitterness, your way of speaking will express what is in it. If your heart is full of God’s love, your words will reflect that love. So, a person with love and peace in his/her heart will always give them a word of encouragement and motivation to continue, he/she does not criticize you, give you a hand and is always in the best disposition to help you and to excel in everything. There is no envy, do not enjoy injustice, and is not boastful. Therefore, if we take seriously what these biblical texts say about being responsible for our idle words, we must not only weigh our words but also thoroughly examine our heart. Thus, our heart is the main source of our speech.

Prayer: Open your heart

Lord Jesus, I am before your presence asking forgiveness if I have failed you. Forgive me if my words have been useless and I have not been a blessing to other people. Help me to be a source of blessing. Amen.

Friendly Advice

My dear friends, there are some recommendations to apply before speaking which are the following:

1. Is it true?

2. Can you help?

3. Does it inspire?

4. Is it necessary?

5. Is he kind?

If the content of what you’re going to say doesn’t pass these questions, it doesn’t really require you to say it. Otherwise, you will have to be responsible and answer for your words.
