For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not [a]fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17: 8
Many of us have experienced drought, not drought, by a shortage of rain, but the drought that we live in day-to-day circumstances in our lives. Many times we have been frustrated, disappointed, and you have tried everything but everything fails you. To the extreme that we remember that God exists and we beg him to help us. However, such is our prayer or supplication seeking a response from heaven, but the only answer we got is silence. Have you experienced a drought in your life?
Remembering the experience of drought at different stages of my life, I go back to the famous story of Job (book of Job, bible), a man who had everything, children, wealth, and many other things. Until one day, he lost everything, his wealth, and even his children. Moreover, that was not enough, his body received illness. We know that Job was faithful through his drought, his desert. But, as a human being, doubt came to him and frustration came to him, because he cried out: “Oh, that I knew where I might find Him that I might come to His seat! I would present my case before Him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which He would answer me and understand what He would say to me”(Job 23: 3-5). Therefore, Job knew that God was in charge of his life. But, for a moment Job felt that God was avoiding him and that the sky was silent.
Perhaps, my dear friends, you are going through a moment in your lives that in your minds have many questions and are provoking God to hear your case. To the extent that we are better able to hear God’s response, we are more receptive to hearing God’s voice and advice. Therefore, it is there that our dry spirit desires the living, refreshing and comforting water that only God can give.
Prayer: Open your heart
Lord Jesus, I am in front of your presence, asking you to forgive me and that you can hear my prayer in this drought. Many times I have prayed and read the Bible, but I feel you are silent and I feel distant from you. But, today I recognize that when you’re quiet, I know you’re testing me like gold. I recognize that you take care of me. My God, remove any obstacle that prevents me from having a deep relationship with you, Jesus. I ask in your name, Amen.
Friendly advice
My dear friends, we have lived through our experience at some point in our lives or we are living it right now. Many times the experience of drought is to prepare or train each of us for a new beginning in life such as physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. There are moments, when the doubt enters, the frustrations and we even feel in defeat. But, I want to tell you, my dear friends, that it is vitally important to recognize that in these times of drought there is a purpose of God in our lives. So, it is not time to regret, but to seek help or resources that can help you with your situation. It is time to ask God for help and wisdom. It is time to embrace with God and he will provide the strength to get out of your situation. See your drought as a time to reflect, grow, and learn. Do not let negative thoughts reach your mind and prevent you from knowing Jesus in the depths of your desert.
